Nearly halfway through the NBA Season, the Husky Dream Team continues to struggle. Surprising performances, both good and bad, have shaped the past month’s games.
Josh ‘Daniel’ Boone has gone from major bust, to breakout player. Struggling to find consistent playing time due to nagging injuries, Boone has finally gotten his opportunity from the New Jersey Nets and he has taken advantage of it. Thrust into the starting lineup, Boone has helped the Nets get back to winning basketball games, scoring and rebounding in double digits while providing solid defense. Teammate Marcus Williams has yet to break into the rotation as he comes off injury.
Ben ‘Baby Bull’ Gordon was benched by the underachieving, dysfunctional Chicago Bulls. This was actually a good thing. Initially, Gordon responded by scoring over thirty points in three games, and helping the Bulls win again. This has been short-lived however as the Bulls, who fired their head coach Scott Skiles, have gone back to losing while Gordon has played poorly.
Ray ‘He Got Game’ Allen has struggled to find his shooting touch, while the Boston Celtics have continued to win big. Allen has been at his worst recently while enduring a pinched nerve in his neck. He has missed time, and not played well while fighting through the injury, and the Celtics have finally lost a few games.
Caron ‘the’ Butler continues to do it. Butler should garnish MVP votes for his performance in Washington this season. The Wizards are six games over .500 since all-star Gilbert Arenas went down with injury, and are fresh off back-to-back wins against the Celtics. Butler leads Le Wiz and is keeping them in playoff contention while they await the return of their super-star.
Richard ‘Rip’ Hamilton has played better this month, although his scoring average is still down from last season.
Emeka Okafor continues to average a double double, but his block totals are down, and he has had too many games where he was a no show.
Rudy ‘it’s good to be’ Gay continues his strong second season. Gay is averaging nearly twenty points a night, and pulling down rebounds. He has gone over thirty points on six occasions while leading the Memphis Grizzlies in scoring.
Charlie ‘can’ Villanueva has been slightly better this past month in Milwaukee, but still fails to bring it on a night in, night out basis. Teammate Jake ‘the snake’ Voskuhl has suffered a hip injury, and is on the injured list.
Hilton ‘towers’ Armstrong has had his minutes reduced for the surprising New Orleans Hornets, who are a half a game behind the San Antonio Spurs.
Donyell Marshall has yet to play this season, as he recovers from a wrist injury in Cleveland. Kevin Ollie might as well be hurt as he continues to ride the pine in Philadelphia.
Until all the former Huskies click on all cylinders at the same time, the fantasy hoops Husky Dream Team will continue to struggle.
