Goldens Bridge, a local Danbury band, released their third record on March 28. The band and their label, Chowda House Inc., put together a release party for Blame It on the Music at The City Ale House for everyone to celebrate. Although the band is not doing an all-out tour for their new album, they do plan to play a string of shows in the area.

“[We’ll play] a few Danbury shows over the next few months, probably a New York City show and maybe a few more around Connecticut/New York/New Jersey,” says Robert Loncto, the guitar player and vocalist of Goldens Bridge.

The album, which has seven songs, was recorded over five days spread out over a month’s period of time. The band itself and Simon Tuozzoli, who runs Underground Production Studios in Seymour, produced the album throughout January and February of this year.

“We’ve been playing most of the songs for a couple years so it came out pretty quick. The vocals took a little long, but not incredibly. And mixing always takes a while for us; we’re very meticulous about how we want our music to sound. In the end, we’re very happy with the recording,” says Loncto.

“We write a lot of music together, so it’s always nice to get some recordings out and pass them around,” he continues. “Plus, then when we play shows people will know the songs.”

On Blame It on the Music,  Goldens Bridge is especially proud of the song, “Only Whores Are Successful”.
“It’ s a pretty simple song that we didn’t think too much of, but the recording came out great and it ended up leading the album. Everyone we’ve played the album to thinks it’s the best song,” says Loncto.

The band is also very excited about recording their first near six-minute song, “Pillars of the Fallen Empire” which according to the group has “a few different twists and turns.”

According to their band biography at ChowdaHouse.com, Loncto, James Reville, and Brian Cococcia have been playing and performing together since high school. Even though none of the members are actually from Goldens Bridge, New York,  all of them live close enough to it to decide to use it as their name.

“When we started in 2003, we decided to use the name. For the first year or two of the band we were trying to think of something better, but nothing ever came along so we stuck with Goldens Bridge. There are a ton
of local bands with better names than us, but that’s okay,” says Loncto.

Although metal might be the first word that comes to mind, their influences consist of anywhere from Pantera and Alice in Chains to The Offspring and Incubus.  Thus, it’s hard to place Goldens Bridge into a specific bracket of music.

“Most people consider us a straight-up metal band, and our music currently is mostly based in metal, but we don’t like to label ourselves as a ‘metal band’,” explained Loncto. “We don’t want to be lumped into a category with thousands upon thousands of metal bands who basically dress the same way, write the same music and write the same lyrics and have the same band name.”

Goldens Bridge continually plays shows in the Danbury are, usually in places such as Cousin Larry’s or the The City Ale House. They are currently working on getting a spot at the Heirloom Arts Theatre.

“Wherever it happens that we play a show and we play well, we have fun,” said Loncto. “And the crowd, not matter how big or small, is into the music as well.”

Like most musicians, Goldens Bridge does not get paid a ton of money to produce music and put on concerts. Although the group considers music more than a hobby, they do not make Goldens Bridge their full-time job. “But at least now, we’re not slaves to major labels,” Loncto explains in a sense of good light.

“[We play] to keep ourselves entertained, to rock out, to express ourselves, to play shows, to record, to do something productive with our free time, because we love music, because we think we don’t suck,” he says.
Goldens Bridge’s album will be available on iTunes in early April and their songs can be heard on WXCI’s Chowda House Hour every Wednesday night at 7pm.
